Mahshid Mazooji’s night at the Charlotte Douglas International Airport took an unexpected turn when she missed her connecting flight. But rather than being upset and frustrated, she decided to make the most of her situation by spreading joy and positivity through her favorite activity: dancing.
Mazooji filmed herself performing an improvised dance routine to the tune of Lionel Richie’s “All Night Long” with fellow stranded passengers joining in on the fun. She later shared the video on social media with the caption, “…I didn’t want to sit in anger all night long, so instead I did what makes me happiest…DANCE!!!! Oh, and I made some really great friends along the way! Thank you for dancing your troubles away with me!!!:).”
What Mazooji’s new friends didn’t know was that “All Night Long” held a special meaning to her. As a child, the song always uplifted her spirits and got her moving.
Mazooji’s video went viral, spreading joy to millions of people around the world. The attention even caught the eye of Lionel Richie himself, who invited Mazooji to attend one of his shows in Las Vegas and meet him backstage.
For Mazooji, the dance party wasn’t just a way to pass the time, but a way to stay positive and keep her spirits up. “The video really did help me pass the time,” she said.
Her message of positivity and joy in the face of unexpected circumstances resonated with viewers, who left comments like “It’s beautiful to see someone spreading so much joy like this!” and “Can’t tell you how much this cheered me when I needed it- AND you are a great dancer.”
Mazooji’s impromptu dance party is a testament to the power of positivity and the importance of spreading joy, even in the most unexpected of circumstances.
