Veterans Day and Memorial Day are holidays dedicated to honoring the men and women who have dedicated their lives in service to our country. Memorial Day honors the soldiers who lost their lives to protect our freedom and protect our country.
Todd Weaver, 26, was deployed to Afghanistan in 2010. He left behind his wife and 9-month-old daughter, Emma. Todd stayed in touch with his family through video chats and messages.
Sadly, Lt. Todd lost his life on September 9, 2010. His death was set off by an explosive device a few weeks before he returned home. Todd’s remains were returned to the state and interred at Arlington National Cemetery in October.
Prior to his deployment, Lt. Todd visited the cemetery as his final resting place. Barely a year after his funeral, Lieutenant Todd received several offers of service such as the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart.
Lt. Todd’s wife then received the laptop he had in Afghanistan. When I opened it, I found two documents containing letters. One was addressed to his wife Emma, the other to his young daughter Kelly. Both are heartbreaking.
