The Florida Sheriff’s Office caused a stir and made national headlines when it refused to remove the expression from its fleet of patrol cars. An atheist group called for the phrase to be removed after filing a professional complaint.
Their complaint stated that posters with the phrase excluded them from being atheists. The complaint, led by the Freedom from Religion Foundation (FFRF), demanded that the decals be removed.
The group is made up of atheists and is based in Madison, Wisconsin. FFRF co-chair Annie Laurie Gaylor also wrote a letter to Evie complaining that she used taxpayer money to promote religious messages by putting them on police cars.
Brevard County Sheriff Wayne Ivy refuses to remove the posters.
Speaking to Fox News, he said, “I personally believe our country has reached a tipping point, and if we as strong patriotic Americans do not stand up for the principles of our great nation, we will lose. The America we all know and love!”
