Not all superheroes wear headscarves. Some of them are just teachers. The Georgia special education teacher showed her love and commitment to her students when she asked the three of them to walk her down the aisle when she recently married.
Colin Powell is a 25-year-old teacher at Lakeview Academy in Milledgeville. She asked three of her favorite students at the age of 10 to be a part of her special day. The three students are Dominic May, Jay Hurt and Cord Solomon. He may have Down syndrome while Hurt and Solomon have other disabilities.
“After you’ve only had five or six kids, they’re yours,” Powell told WMAZ. “Since I have no children, I call these three my children.” She said she always knew that the three boys would have an important role in her wedding.
“I always said my kids would be at my wedding because they’re just the biggest part of my heart,” she said. “They mean to me like no one else has been there.”
Chikwana told Solomon today that her son had a wonderful time celebrating his teacher. He was so happy that he started dancing as he walked down the aisle, to the delight of everyone present. Despite the physical limitations, the boys did a great job in their role of escorting their beloved teacher to the altar.
