Mr Peoples, 62, works as a school crossing guard at the primary school and his main task is to help pupils cross the road safely.
“These are my children,” said Mr Peoples, of the children he helps to cross the street safely every day. “I take it very seriously, safety.”
His sincerity in protecting the safety of every student is greatly appreciated by parents. “He’s looking for everyone. Children and parents. One parent commented.
Apparently, he is also loved by students. Student Isabel Assoulin said: “He is amazing. He helps and protects us all, we all love him.”
With Mr Peoples playing such an important role in keeping pupils safe, his absence was felt when Mr Peoples was unable to get to work last December when his car broke down.
Moreover, he had to spend Christmas Eve in the hospital. Luckily for Mr. People, he didn’t have to go through the tough times himself.
When one of the students’ parents, Sloan Johnson, learned of Mr People’s story, she wrote a Facebook post to raise money for him.
Shortly after it was posted on Facebook, donations poured in. “In two hours, we raised $800 and a car donated by a relative,” she said in the interview.
Later, Mr Peoples, who was unaware of the fundraiser, was asked to travel to Sherwood Forest Primary School on a borrowed flight. He felt like he had to make a deal to buy an old racquet.
Little did he know that a large crowd of students and parents were already waiting for him to present him with a new SUV and a check for $2,500!
He was always enthusiastic and honest in his work, so he never expected anything in return.
Needless to say, he was grateful for the love and care he received from students and parents.
“Now I know they care,” he said. “It’s good to know that people care.”
Thanks to the new SUV, Mr. Peoples no longer has any problem getting to work!
