The novice enjoyed the euphoria he received daily from the cow and was seen sitting or sleeping on the cow’s back. The cow and the dog spent time together every day. However, the time will come when the family will not be able to keep the cow and decide to look for a buyer for the animal.
The rookie experienced a lot of heartbreak when he realized that his best friend no longer existed for him. The dog howled and barked repeatedly as it returned again and again to the paddock that once housed the cow. Desperation was evident in Rookie’s eyes and he was sad to see the dog’s condition.
One day the rookie heard Moe Cow somewhere down the street. The dog ran despite its owner’s protests. The rookie ignored his owner’s pleas to stop. His only concern was the sound of the cow. Rookie continued to bellow until he found the cow tied to a stall.
He jumped up and licked the cow’s face. The dog was really happy until his owner picked him up and brought him home.
Once home, Rookie’s depression immediately took over. The rookie stopped eating and worried his owner. The rookie wandered day after day in the enclosure that housed his friend until the day he was surprised by a familiar shrill cry. Her surrogate mother and her best friends are back home.
The owner couldn’t bear to look at the depressed dog any longer and sacrificed himself to get the cow back. The story of Rookie and the cow is a great example of the emotions that animals can feel.
