According to The Independent, Princess Diana suffered a serious tear in her pericardium, the protective sac surrounding her heart, during the car crash that resulted in her death.

Heart surgeon Professor Alain Pavie attempted to save her, but found that she also had a tear in her upper left pulmonary vein and despite his efforts, her heart had already stopped and could not be restarted. The doctors present at the scene did everything they could for an hour to save her life but were unable to.

Speculation surrounding Diana’s death continues, as reported by The Mirror, a lawyer has claimed that her death may not have been accidental. Michael Mansfield said that the drivers of the mysterious car and motorbike that were present in the tunnel where the accident happened have never been traced.

He also added that the idea that it was a simple road accident is not correct and that this is not a “case closed” by any means. He also pointed out that the verdict following the inquest in 2008 was not accident and that there were other options related to the death. He also said that new information could lead to a new inquest.
