Michael called easyJet’s customer service number, and explained the situation. Michael said he was a pilot and had his license with him, and was happy to offer his services to the airline for the flight to Alicante.
The rep said the company would be calling him soon for a response. A minute later, easyJet called for a positive response.
When the passengers boarded the plane, Michael addressed everyone on board through the plane’s speaker system. As he told them all that had happened, Michael hoped that everyone would agree with his lack of a professional pilot’s uniform.
Then cheers erupted on the plane as the passengers gave their approval for Michael to take charge of their flight. One of the flight’s passengers, Michael Plotts, recorded Michael’s speech and uploaded it to Facebook, where it quickly went viral. Michelle said the trip might have been canceled had it not been for Michael, calling him a legend, according to The Independent.
An easyJet spokesperson thanked Michael for helping the airline transport its passengers from Manchester to Alicante. The company said the delay was due to air traffic control problems in France, forcing it to rely on reserve pilots and personnel for many of its flights. easyJet also stressed that the situation was exceptional and that they confirmed that Michael was a full member.
