Footage recently released by Animal Rescue International shows horrific footage of an orangutan trying to fight a bulldozer destroying its habitat.

As loggers smash the base of a tree in Ketapang District, West Borneo, a heart-breaking video clip shows one of the great apes perched in the tree canopy falling to the ground.

In the footage—originally filmed in 2013 but only made public last year—the orangutan clings as it slowly falls to the ground, and the orangutan begins to make its way down the trunk.

While two members of the IAR’s Orangutan Conservation Unit attempt to toss the animal and carry it to safety, the startled monkey reaches out and temporarily grabs the malicious machine causing it to pull away.
