Kenisha Anthony and Stephen Webber were apparently a very happy couple who went on vacation off the east coast of Africa. They rented a log cabin on Pemba Island that contained a bedroom bathed in the ocean, WBRZ reports. The couple can stare out the window at the warm blue water as they enjoyed their time together.
One Friday, Webber swam underwater in scuba gear to propose to Antoine with a handwritten note. Approach the window, and raise the note on the glass. The paper was in a clear plastic bag and she said he “couldn’t hold his breath long enough” to tell her how much he loved her.
The note also asked her to marry him. “Would you be my wife, please?” the note read. “marry me???” Then Weber pulled out a ring and showed it to Antoine while he was still underwater.
After Weber disappeared from view, he did not float to the surface from the water. Antoine posted on Facebook that although he never heard her answer, it was a definite “yes.” She continued to say that the harshest fate imaginable stole the best days of their lives.
Webber’s sister Mandy Hoffman told WBRZ that while her brother certainly drowned, no one knows the exact reason why it happened. She went on to say that her brother was a generous and selfless person with an infectious smile. He loved everyone around him and everyone loved him, according to his statement.
His body has not yet been returned to the United States. The Manta Resort also issued its own statement regarding the death of the American tourist, according to The Guardian. At the moment, the local authorities are investigating the cause of his death but have not provided any additional information in this regard.
Our deepest condolences to both families at this time. We hope to learn more over time about why Weber isn’t showing up.
