Originally a traditional folk song, “The House of the Rising Sun” gained popularity when performed by the British rock band The Animals. The lyrics tell the story of a person’s struggles in New Orleans, USA.
Balke’s rendition, delivered with a mature, raspy voice, captivated the audience as she sang, “There is a house way down in New Orleans they call the Rising Sun, and it’s been the ruin of many a poor boy – and God, I know I’m one.”
Her performance deeply moved her family, bringing her younger brother to tears. Continuing to astonish the audience and coaches like Michi Beck, Smudo, Álvaro Soler, Wincent Weiss, and Lena Meyer-Landrut, Balke received a standing ovation after completing the song.
Choosing Michi and Smudo as her coaches propelled her to the finals of “The Voice Kids” Season 10 in Germany, where she emerged as the winner.
