Eliyahu Petroska fled Poland at the start of World War II believing that his entire family was dead. But two weeks ago, he found out that his younger brother had survived and that his nephew, Alexander, 66, was traveling from Russia to see him.
The meeting was made possible by a comprehensive online database of victims created by Yad Vashem, the official Israeli memorial to the victims of the Holocaust. Given the decline in the number and age of survivors, it appears that this event was likely one of the last of its kind.
