The family remained strong despite their grief and loss, and they showed just how united they were when it came time to celebrate Simon’s final career attempt as a WWE wrestler. It was a milestone for the 20-year-old, as well as a great way for the family to reunite.
According to a statement from WWE, Simone said the promotion “means the world to me.” She went on to add, “Knowing that my family has such a personal connection to wrestling is truly special to me and I’m grateful to have the opportunity to not only wrestle, but to continue that legacy.”
The family heirlooms Simone refers to include her father, 10-time world champion “The Rock”, as well as her great-grandfather “Rocky Johnson” and her great-grandfather “High Chef” Peter Maivia. The latter two have already been inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame.
WWE Executive Vice President Paul “Triple H” Levesque said “Simone Johnson’s unbridled passion and incredible leadership has earned her coveted training with elite athletes around the world at the WWE Performance Center. “.
He added: “Simone not only now has the opportunity to grow and show her passion for WWE within the Performance Center, but she will continue the tradition of her family’s incredible dynasty while creating her own impact as a as the first 4th Generation WWE Superstar.”
Simon Johnson’s father told Good Morning America in 2018 that Simon’s dream was to be a WWE wrestler. In February 2020, Johnson took to Instagram to show his support for his daughter’s dream to come true.
In his Instagram post, Johnson said:
“Dreams aren’t just for dreamers. Congratulations to my firstborn, Simone Johnson, on officially signing her wrestling contract… Wear our family name proudly, but your path will always be yours to create, win and own .So proud.Live your dream.Let’s take action.
During her previous GMA appearance, “The Rock” said of her eldest of three daughters, “Simone works hard – and her hard work has already begun – she wants to be a WWE wrestler.” He also added, “I loved the idea. We had this great conversation, she came with me to Hong Kong (and) Beijing.”
I said, “Honey, whatever your passion is, I support it.” Dwayne added his personal experience with WWE noting, “And wrestling was so good to me, I started my career in Madison Square Garden. Well, bring it, you’ll be a hero.”
It wasn’t the only time Simone made her mark on the world. When she was just 16, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association named her a Golden Globes Ambassador for the 75th anniversary of the Golden Globe Awards, the first of its kind in 2017.
“I was blessed to have grown up in a home with role models, and I’m proud to represent the Hollywood Association of Foreign Journalists on its 75th anniversary,” Johnson said.
She also told The Hollywood Reporter that the platform allows her to be more than “her parents’ daughter and to be [her] person.” She also added, “I feel especially lucky and proud to become the first Golden Globes Ambassador and to represent this progressive and special new title.”
