Tim needed a way to get closer to the little boy without worrying the alleged kidnapper. After towing the bus, Tim made up a story about losing a backpack.

He walked down the aisle, pretending to reach for a green backpack, as CBS 6 reported.

As soon as he approached the boy and saw the bright red Fangs, he knew it was the kidnapped boy.
Rather than cause a disturbance, which could endanger the boy’s life, Tim returns to his seat and secretly reports it to the police. Thanks to Tim’s quick wit, the police were waiting at the next stop. The suspect was arrested and the little boy was returned to his parents.

After being informed that he had foiled a kidnapping attempt, Tim Watson was clearly upset. He told reporters on CBS 6 that he couldn’t help but imagine how he would feel if one of his sons was missing.
