Janice Rudd was a student at Occidental College in California and worked part-time in the cafeteria to help her through college. But one day a man came and swept it away. Prentice Wilson was a great man. He loved Janice. He kept coming back for breakfast, and that led to something else. The two have signed for each other!
Janice and Prentice were so in love with each other that they decided to get married. They got involved and even appeared in a local newspaper. However, Janice’s father didn’t really embrace the idea of her marriage, so he forced her to cancel her wedding plans, threatening to cut off her financial support. She had no choice!
“That wouldn’t work for me,” says Janice, “I had to get a college degree.
With great sadness, many tears and two broken hearts, Janis broke up with Prentice. It was painful in his life. The two separated and went through marriage and divorce.
After decades of losing contact, Prentice’s mother passed away. While packing up his belongings, Prentice discovers something he never expected to see again in his mother’s belongings.
“[There was] our engagement announcement that was in her local paper — and she kept it the whole time,” Prentice said.
“But what’s even more exciting – when Janice’s mother has passed away and the two mothers have never met – and Janice slips her stuff – into her purse the same ad that was in her local paper.”
“The signs were that we were meant to be together,” Janice said.
The shocking discovery once again brought Janis and Prentice in touch. None of them were married and they were no longer under the control of their parents…
So, on June 20, 2010, Janice and Prentice met again to see if there was a spark. Suddenly, Prentice remarked that Janice was wearing the same color of pants as at Thanksgiving in 1961 – and in a flash, the feelings were gone again.
“It’s time to fix what was wrong 50 years ago,” Prentice said.
So they engaged again.
