Michelle Gerrard was Chris’ high school teacher. For four years, she was able to teach him in a way that helped him do well in school. This must have had a huge impact on him as his name was first in his head when he needed help. They haven’t spoken in years and she’s retired.
After investigation, the police were able to locate her and contact her to explain what was going on with Chris. Luckily, I remembered her, and given her situation, I knew what would happen if she didn’t intervene. Since Chris’ father was unable to care for him, he either had to go to a group home or an institution. Because it requires special attention, it will be placed where its needs will be met.
After Michelle realizes what he has in store for Chris, Michelle decides to take care of him herself. Her father died a few months later and she is now in the process of becoming his legal guardian. Michelle learned that Kris had never celebrated her birthday, enjoyed Thanksgiving or attended a Christmas party, reports KWTX. Realizing all of this, I decided that this year would be the first of many for him.

Teachers tend to be a beacon of hope for many children. Some have a caring spirit that extends beyond the classroom. Luckily, Michelle was that shining light that Chris needed at this point in his life.
