Passersby at a train station in Birmingham, UK were recently stunned by the beautiful music emanating from a public piano. What they didn’t expect was that the pianist was a 13-year-old girl who is blind and has learning disabilities.

Lucy’s mother, Candice, shared her daughter’s story on a recent segment with presenter Claudia Winkleman. According to Candice, Lucy was diagnosed with cancerous tumors in her eyes shortly after she was born, leaving her with no vision at all. On top of that, she has a chromosome 16 duplication and is developmentally delayed, making communication a challenge.

Despite these challenges, Lucy has always had a love for music. As a child, she was given a tiny keyboard that she would take into the hospital with her. “She played Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star perfectly on it,” Candice recalled. The tune caught the attention of a nurse who initially thought it was pre-recorded.

Lucy’s talent didn’t go unnoticed. She began working with The Amber Trust, a nonprofit that supports blind musicians, and has since honed her skills on the piano. Her most recent performance of Chopin’s Nocturne Op.9 No.1 at the train station left many people in awe.

Lucy’s story is a testament to the power of music and the resilience of the human spirit. Despite facing numerous obstacles
